We Believe

THAT BY GIVING PEOPLE THE TOOLS TO LEAD HEALTHY, PRODUCTIVE LIVES, WE CAN HELP THEM LIFT THEMSELVES OUT OF POVERTY.

Ripple Effect

Every year, millions of people find ways to transition out of poverty by adopting new farming technologies, investing in new business opportunities, or finding new jobs. We know our people have a unique power to reshape societies. When you invest in a children and young people health and empowerment, it has a ripple effect, helping families, communities, and countries achieve long-lasting benefits.

Financial Exclusion

Every year, millions of people around the world transition out of poverty. Regional growth and economic opportunities like new jobs, technologies, and business opportunities, help people build more stable economic lives. At the same time, millions of people remain trapped in a cycle of poverty that is very difficult to escape. We believe financial exclusion is a significant driver of this cycle.

Financial System

About 1.7 billion people worldwide are excluded from formal financial services, such as savings, payments, insurance, and credit. In developing economies, only 63 percent of adults have an account. Nearly one billion are still left out of the formal financial system, and there is a 9 percent persistent gender gap in financial inclusion in developing economies.

Borrowing Money

Most poor households instead, operate almost entirely through a cash economy. This means they have to save in physical assets, such as livestock . Cash gets spent, animals die. What’s more, these forms of savings earn no interest and can actually lose value over time. To send money to family, those without a bank account have to rely on couriers or friends who carry cash by bus, which is expensive, insecure, and slow. To borrow money in an emergency, they must turn to moneylenders who charge notoriously high interest rates.

Expenses of poverty

Without formal financial histories, people are also cut off from potentially stabilising   and uplifting opportunities like building credit or getting a loan to start a business. And it’s harder to weather common financial setbacks, such as serious illness, a poor harvest, or an economic downturn. All too often, financial exclusion makes the expenses of poverty difficult to overcome.

Our Strategy

Our strategy is aimed at supporting what we and our future partners believe are the most catalytic approaches to financial inclusion: helping to drive the development of digital payment systems that can help spread use of digital financial services quickly, advancing gender equality, and supporting the development of national and regional strategies that accelerate progress for the poor and provide exemplar models. To achieve these objectives, we will work with partners around the world to align on common principles for digital financial inclusion and support policymakers as they work to develop policies and regulations that facilitate growth in digital financial services.

OUR STRATEGY

The Development Policy and Finance team will supports research and analysis that can lead to new policy ideas and financing innovations. We also draw on the foundation’s own evidence and experiences to help our internal teams advance their work in policy and financing.

Our team will works with governments, developing country governments, multilateral development banks, and other development experts. We will also make grants to research and policy institutions, including our INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL & VOCATIONAL ONLINE EDUCATION PLAN.

We will use the foundation’s convening ability and leadership voice to support our partners’ analysis and ideas and to support the launch of promising innovations.

WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY

And ambition to eradicate extreme poverty, and the inequities that go with it, has rarely been higher. Funders, including the foundation, are eager to work with countries, technical experts, civil society organisations, and citizens to deliver on that vision, and all of these, analysis, innovation, and ideas that will help make it a reality.

We believe we can save lives by delivering the latest in science and technology to those with the greatest needs.

OUR GOAL

To accelerate progress in advancing human development and alleviating extreme poverty by enabling evidence-based public policymaking at the global and national levels-through research, ideas, and innovations.

Improving the lives of our children and young people requires significant financial commitments and spending available funding in the most effective and creative ways possible. We believe that this challenge demands more than business as usual on the part of the major public, private, and nongovernmental entities that support the fight against extreme poverty and health inequities around the world.

Improving the effectiveness of development aid requires understanding policies and funding portfolios, analysing what works, and contributing new ideas. We will work with donors and other development partners, global advocates, think tanks, and multilateral organisation to modernise  development aid systems, unlock more funding, and get more value from each aid pound spent.

WORKING TOGETHER IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES We recognise that improving people’s lives often happens at the local level, where individuals take action in their own communities.

OUR RESOURCES ALONE ARE NOT ENOUGH, SO WE WORK TO CHANGE PUBLIC POLICIES, ATTITUDES, AND BEHAVIORS TO IMPROVE LIVES.

Let’s Take Action Together ,we can still work together to take action on causes we care about.
